  1. This is our family home to all of us as my mother Betsy and my aunt Ancy are Mr Cliffy's sisters. My sister Josephine was the only baby born in this house. My grandfather Nicholas D'Souza was the previous owner before Uncle Cliffy. My mother always tells us about this house she grew up in. We last visited Doves Cottage in 2007.It stands tall at 104 now.

  2. I don't think that this is the oldest house. My Dad's family home still exist even though it was a thatched house by the sea.

  3. My late mother, Gerarda and her two sisters Mary (now in Malaysia) and Nicholasia (now in Kerala) lived in Doves Cottage with their aunt (father's sister) Dominicia Gomez, as my grandfather, Venseslaus Gomez an accounts manager spent most of his working life in the tea estates in Idukki District with my grandmother. Doves Cottage was built (I am told) by Dominicia's husband D.M.Gomez, who acquired money working for Rajah Brooke in Sarawak. My mother's cousins Joseph Gomez and Baldwin Pereira also lived in Doves Cottage, so too my late cousin Blossy Miranda nee Gomez. My mother's marriage celebration was held at Doves Cottage in 1936. Rumour has it, that Dominicia got into debts, and Nichlaus Souza, who was Dominicia's nephew-in-law paid off the debts and ownership passed. Some say that the house belongs to Aggie (my mother's first cousin) who married Willie Souza. It would be good if the ownership of Doves Cottage could be traced from the time it was built, especially now since Mr Cliffy is still there. Now it is more or less, 'I say this' and 'your say that'.

  4. You are right. This house was built by D.M.Gomez and due to his debts the ownership was passed on to Nicholas D'Souza who was married to Josephine, his wife's niece. Nicholas has only one daughter,Betsy, whose mother was Angela. Anjela had three other children,Cliffy,Ancy and Anthony through her husband William D'Souza.Betsy was married to Late Mr Michael Gomez. She lives in Canada.

  5. As per the records it is true the house was built by Mr D.M.Gomez and Betsy's father Nicholas paid off the debts and the ownership was passed on to him.As Betsy was the only daughter of Nicholas and Angela, the property should have rightly gone to her, but it didn't. It was Cliffy, the son of William and Angela who got Doves Cottage and he resides there with his wife and son.Nicholas' wife Josephine was aware of his daughter Betsy through Angela and she was very fond of Betsy and looked after her as her own.Betsy and Late Michael Gomez has four daughters and I must say they did an excellent job bringing up their children without any help from her brother and family. it was at times painful to see her go through the rough days knowing in her heart that what had to come to her from her father had gone to Cliffy. I heard she does visit her home in Anjengo once in a while to recollect her lovely days she spent with her father, mother, aunt and William, Angela's husband. May God be with her always.

  7. My grandfather Paul Thomas said that he had seen Nicholas Dsouza being tortured by Ebusavie, father of Girly a.k.a Leela,Jessy and his two sons (I don't know their names). He also told me that Nicholas had written more than 6 wills and till date other than Cliffy (Nicholas' nephew) no one else has seen the will and he is enjoing the wealth from this huge property when it should rightfully belong to his one and only daughter Beatrice (Betsy).I do hope one day the truth comes in open and the people who have cheated should be brought to task.Cliffy maybe uneducated or he is being manipulated by his wife, Girly. My grandfather was a good friend of Nicholas and he always felt sorry for him whenever he spoke to him. He used to talk a lot about his daughter Betsy and her children. I hope one day Betsy or her children read this and know that her father loved her and her family dearly. I believe they are in Singapore.
